Very Sad.
The youths seem energetic and truly interested in amateur radio. They should not let the OM’s dissuade them.
I had my own challenges when I entered the amateur radio fraternity as a teen. Most older hams were very inclusive, but some did not want anything to do with a kid.
Haters gotta hate……

Subject: [arrl-odv:34014] Re: Youth in Ham Radio
It is refreshing to hear the youth perspective. Connor is a good friend and recently was part of the “meme appreciation month” special event.
They talked about the meme appreciation month incident. I was part of the activation. Sadly, some hams complained not only on FB but also on QRZ and Fred yeeted (took down) their listings from QRZ. The Canadian youth shot back with official copies of the authorization and all was good.
It did leave a bad taste in their mouths, as it seemed like a knee jerk reaction. I think that since first impressions last, this didn’t do well with them.
