Dick, it is a bit unusual for elections to be held this early in a meeting. Ours were moved to the beginning of the meeting many years ago. As I recall there were two reasons. First, Board members found that campaigning during the course of the meeting distracted from other business, since there was a certain amount of posturing and swapping of votes/favors involved. Second, committee assignments could not be made until after the elections and Directors wanted to know what committee they would be on prior to considering motions that involved assigning work to committees. The draft agenda reflects past Board practice, but the Board can change the order if it wishes. All it takes is a motion to amend the agenda at the time it is considered, a second, and a simple majority vote in favor.
