There is one group in Hood River Oregon that operates field day from the WalMart in their area, right along the I-84 freeway every year.  They set up near the entrance to the parking lot and have towers mounted on trailers that they use.

Most of the WalMarts that I know of that don’t allow overnight camping are ones that often have a full parking lot of customers in cars or that are in a resort area with lots of RV parks, like along the Oregon coast.

Tom Abernathy may know WAY more about this, but I was told years ago that many Walmart’s across the country allow overnight camping.  This was apparently the philosophy of the founder, Sam Walton.

An interesting link is here:  https://www.elmonterv.com/guide/rv-rental-information/overnight-stay-information/

Not all stores allow overnight camping, but I’ll bet those that do would allow hams to operate through the night for Field Day as well as these contests.

Wow!

They left out the part about working the Wal Mart HQ stations W5SAM and W5BUD in the Bentonville, AR Corporate Office for a bonus...

Good stuff Dick!
