The best part of the eclipse here was it cooled off a few degrees during the heat of the day! David A. Norris, K5UZ Director, Delta Division Sent from my iPhone

I have to watch the evening news for the coast, as I understand Charleston was going to be a zoo with the influx of eclipse watchers. My Son came up from Tallahassee and had plans to go to Charleston, but decided to go with a few in my family to a nearby 100% totality zone, which is about ten or so miles from here.
I just texted my county Emergency Manager, and he said there were no problems in the county due to the eclipse, traffic or otherwise. My county is on the far West side of the state, adjacent to Augusta, GA. As far as I know, our hospital did not do anything out of the ordinary, other than being on alert.
The eclipse ended just prior to 4:10 pm in South Carolina.
It did get dark here in the 99.9% zone, but not like night. My Son did tell me that there was total darkness in the 100% totality zone.
Interesting stuff. I wonder how the solar eclipse QSO party will turn out?

Was it a non-event there, like it was here, after all the media hype? Few people went out to the Oregon coast so the restaurants who spent thousands of dollars on food don’t have enough customers. That means the highways near my house were not packed like I expected, and no one detouring down the road I live on. After the initial 30-mile back-up to get to the eclipse parties in Madras, there was some stop and go around Portland, Salem and Central Oregon, but not like what was expected.
Our two-lane roads and highways along the path of totality were not built to handle all the traffic expected so this was a surprise.
Another Y2K style event where I had to work all night at a hospital expecting a disaster …
