Harold,
I am not in agreement with the
last bullet point.
I asked Fathom at one of our
board meetings whether the new website would be compatible with PDA’s viewing
the site. Brent assured me that it would be.

Web Site Board
Report July 2, 2010
A busy week for
me since Dave Sumner, Allen Pitts and Katie Glass are all on vacation.
Nevertheless, work on the Web site continues to progress.
·
Fixed a bug in the SM Certificate Maker that
affected sections in the “0” call sign areas.
·
The VUCC standings database has been restored
and Bill Moore updated all of the data.
·
The dates were removed from the Hamfest and
Contest Calendar to avoid confusion with event times. As I explained
previously, this has been a problem since some times were in local time zones
and others were in UTC. The events themselves remain on the calendar.
·
Edited and updated content in the” About ARRL”
Section of the site.
·
The Club Data section has been updated but we
are waiting to implement these changes until Norm Fusaro returns from vacation
and he has an opportunity to review them.
·
Staff for HQ and Fathom staff also spent a great
deal of time working on permissions. This still seem problematic in some
areas and, although, progress was made in the last week, we are still working
on creating a better system for graining permissions in areas of the Web
site.
·
Fathom IT staff conducted the first
training/documentation session with our in –house IT team so that our staff can
eventually, take full control of the Site.
·
I have been asked some questions about the
compatibility of our new site with mobile platforms. If you recall,
Brent Robertson, President of Fathom, discussed this at the Board Meeting when
he was asked a question about mobile compatibility. The answer is that
the site was not specifically designed for mobile use. That would require
creating a separate site just for mobile users. We decided not to pursue
this in the initial phase of the Web project since it would take additional
funding and resources, and, in Fathom’s opinion, the market for mobile devices
was still unsettled with the proliferation of devices and operating
systems. I can tell you that even though it was not specifically designed
for mobile applications, it works well on my iPhone.
Pending:
1. VE

2. CCE

3. Change

4. New

Happy a great Fourth of July!

Harold
