WRC-15 was opened this morning, and substantive work began this afternoon. The 5 MHz agenda item has been assigned to the working group also handling the two maritime agenda items. Dale Hughes, VK1DSH, of Australia, has been named to chair the sub working group to handle 5 MHz. Dale has been given a very ambitious target to complete work on he 5 MHz issue at his level by next Tuesday. The meeting at which all contributors are to introduce their proposals has been scheduled for the first meeting slot tomorrow, with multiple meetings per day through next Tuesday anticipated. To illustrate the international scope of our effort, radio amateurs from Brazil, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Senegal, Norway, Japan, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand are here in their capacities as radio amateurs, either serving on national delegations, regional teams, or the IARU team. We expect amateurs from Venezuela and Kuwait to join the team for part or all of the conference. The team will not only be pursuing the 5 MHz effort, but monitoring a host of defensive issues and attempting to secure an amateur item on the agenda of WRC-19. Barring an unexpected development, I'll let you know Friday where we stand. 73 de Brennan HB9/N4QX Brennan T.
