GM all, At 9:32 ET Sunday, KY SM Steve Morgan W4NHO reports of offers for outside help from the amateur radio community, but recovery efforts do not currently require amateur radio support. Steve suspects those needs will surface soon. He is receiving limited reports currently. It looks like KY deaths may exceed 100. I have to Steve expressed full support from ARRL and ARES teams will be available as needed. Kentuckians are strong, resilient and resourceful. They will let us know when added resources are needed. --73, Dale Williams WA8EFK Director Great Lakes Division On 12/12/2021 9:20 AM, David Norris via arrl-odv wrote:
GM Ria,
I too dodged the brunt of the tornado outbreak Friday PM and yesterday AM. The cell believed to have spawned the twisters passed over LR and I had a good view of it from my office windows. It had the classic anatomy of a developing super cell and a very peculiar color to it as well.
Last week I had an arborist remove several suspect large trees that were either in the way of the new tower project and the garage or that we had determined to be structurally weak or diseased which probably saved me some potential damage. We had 70 mph winds and three old trees on the property were blown down along with multiple limbs.
Unfortunately one of the old trees claimed my EU beverage. It’s chainsaw time! Otherwise everyone here is well and mostly unscathed saved for the cleanup.
Our friends to the northeast of didn’t fair so well as Rick has pointed out. The damage was staggering and from video footage, the storm had two vortices in Craighead County near Jonesboro, AR. The damage was tremendous from NE Arkansas into Tennessee and Kentucky with radar indicating debris at an altitude of 35,000 ft in the atmosphere. This one may set a new record.

Good afternoon,
Hope everyone is ok, especially the Arkansas crew. From what I gather it was far from you all, but lots of damage where it did hit.
