FB, Harold,

When P&G began to have 24-hour answering assistance years back, we were very surprised at the volume of calls we apparently had been missing.  It will be interesting to see if the same holds true for the League.  If nothing else, it is a good "consumer relations" tool.

Subject: [arrl-odv:15288] Telemessaging Service to Start

Hi,

Beginning at approximately 5pm this evening, our customer/member phone lines will be answered by live operators at Around The Clock Telemessaging Corporation in nearby Wethersfield.  They will answer our phones all night until we officially open for business again tomorrow morning.  They will also be answering our phones with live operators during the weekend.

We will be trying this system for a few months to see what types of calls are coming in after hours. We believe that since the no-code regulations, we are experiencing a larger than normal after hours and weekend call volume.  We also believe that this arrangement will provide better customer service for our members and other parties who have in interest in amateur radio and the ARRL.  This is a bit of an experiment for us, so we will be collecting data over the next few months to see if we will continue this arrangement.

The operators at Around the Clock will not be directly taking orders for membership or publications, but they have been trained to refer the inquiry to specific pages on our web site.  All inquiries that cannot be resolved or fulfilled will be referred via email each morning to Jackie Cornell, who is coordinating this project. Jackie will then send the email to the appropriate department for a response.  Since this is a new system, there may be a few glitches to start, so let Jackie know if you have any feedback about the service.

Also, I want to extend a special thanks to Greg for coordinating the technical arrangements.

73,

Harold
