Phil,

ARRL technical staff has always copied the Division director on any correspondence with a member. It is covered in the Director's Workbook. As was stated at the Forum, since Zak Lau's departure, I have not received a single copy of an email to a Southwestern Division member answering a technical question.

In the 18 or so previous years, I had received many copies of the technical staff's answers.

If Mr. Minster would provide examples of questions answered to Southwestern Division members, or a copy of correspondence to Directors alerting them to a Board decision not to copy Directors on emails, I will be happy to pleased to remove the single sentence about not providing technical assistance from future presentations. That sentence is a totally insignificant part of member dissatisfaction with current League direction.

If staff has been providing technical assistance, there is no apology due as Mr. Minster and/or some members of his staff have, through failure to follow policy, prompted a logical conclusion.

There was nothing said at the Forum to disparage the laboratory staff at all. The editorial staff has exhibited good production skills, and there is little or no doubt that if the QST Editor had a staff of seven Technical Editors, or maybe even one or two, the technical quality of QST would be higher.

A number of members commented on Mr. Minster's verbal claims about my remarks at the Forum. There were no specific examples of anything he claimed. Everything I presented at the Forum is fact. I have always stated that if anything can be shown to not be true, it will be corrected. No one commented on the technical support sentence.

In most all Forums, I have had nothing but positive things to say about what we are doing at the League. Things are different today. When the majority of communications that I receive from members is about them feeling cheated by the League, it may be time to do something.

Dick, N6AA

Thanks for asking.

Dick’s slide is ABSOLUTELY NOT correct.  In fact, his entire presentation is fraught with errors, omissions, lies, slander, and disparagement.

The lab has never stopped proving TIS support to members.  Ed Hare, who is fully retired, still works in the lab every week as a volunteer and can support the team with additional support.

Dick made NO EFFORT to reach out to me or to Ed Hare’s successor to ask about emails forwarded to directors re: TIiS support.

Dick’s presentation was meant to, among other things, DISPARAGE me and members of my staff in the lab and editorial.

If you have any questions, please let me know and I’ll get them answered for you.

Thanks

David

Subject: ARRL technical assistance

David,

Dick Norton presented a slide at Visalia claiming that Hq. no longer offers technical assistance from the Lab in the aftermath of Zach Lau's retirement. Is that correct?

I'm presenting at a hamfest about ARRL this coming Sunday, and don't want to convey inaccurate information.
