Jim:

Pactor III is a wideband data mode approx 2khz wide. It can only go in the CW portion of the bands by FCC rule. This situation could cause Narrowband digital modes and cw ops some problem. Perhaps a way around this would be to get the FCC to allow wide band digital modes in the phone bands. There are already wideband image modes in the phone bands. Why not data?

Dennis -

Why do you agree?  What is going on related to
"newer, wider digital modes" that requires us
to act quickly, perhaps in a limited way?

Some of us aren't as involved in this new
technology as you are.  Eager minds await your
answer.

Mike - can you help here, too?

Whether or not we rush to get a complete and comprehensive filingput together on this, we do need to act quickly, if perhaps in a morelimited way, to provide some accomodation for the newer, wider digital modes.  Status quo doesn't cut it.MikeK1TWF
