Sirs:

I found it surprising that a magazine with a reputation such as yours would distribute material with such sophomoric and naive comments as Lev Grossman’s claim that ham radio and stamp collecting were “faintly embarrassing” hobbies.  Not only did these comments add nothing to the Person of the Year and Power Line articles, they insulted hundreds of thousands of your readers and distracted from the main topic.

There are over 670,000 amateur radio operators in the USA.  While I have no idea of the number of people collecting stamps, I am sure that they too are as proud of their accomplishments as are the hams.  If anyone should be embarrassed, it should be TIME’s editors for allowing this snide remark to appear in your work.  You normally are much better than this.

There is an old saying in the world of publicists on the order of, “I don’t care what you say about me, just spell my name correctly.”  Well, the “Times” spelled the moniker correctly”  in the following excerpt.

I guess someone at Time magazine doesn't think much about Ham Radio. Here's an excerpt from the magazine:

Power Line Named Blog of the Year: TIME also names Power Line its Blog of the Year. "Before this year, blogs were a curiosity, a cult phenomenon, a faintly embarrassing hobby on the order of ham radio and stamp collecting. But in 2004, blogs unexpectedly vaulted into the pantheon of major media, alongside TV, radio and, yes, magazines, and it was Power Line, more than any other blog, that got them there," writes TIME’s Lev Grossman.
