Thank you Chris.
I am trying to get a sense for what the potential total amount of a benefit paid under the long term disability would be as such a payment will affect our future premiums.
If there is a way for me to obtain that information (perhaps directly from you), I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Doug

The following is an attorney-client privileged communication and work-product and is confidential.
Doug, I am most uncomfortable with this discussion under the circumstances. First, there are privacy entitlements of the employee (which most assuredly extend to his age) and because there is a pending worker's comp claim; and finally, because the employee's term of employment has ended and I don't know what action that former employee might decide to pursue, or the theory of any action that might be brought.
Nothing in your communications with Barry (and the rest of the Board) are privileged.

What is the "normal retirement age" for Bill and how old is he?

The following should be considered "Board Confidential" as it is a personnel
matter.
Further to David's message of yesterday below, you should know that Bill had
exhausted his eligibility under the ARRL's short term disability insurance
plan and is in the process of applying for benefits under our long term
disability insurance policy which pays a benefit, assuming he is "approved"
by the insurance company, up to "normal retirement age". Approval of that
claim is not in question at this point in time.
In addition, Bill has filed a workers' Compensation claim which is in
dispute with our Workers' Compensation insurance carrier and that claim is
working its way through the investigation process. Technically, it is out of
our hands and is considered to be a matter between the insurance company and
Bill and his attorney. We are providing information as requested by the
appropriate attorneys.

As most of you know, last July ARRL Awards Branch Manager Bill Moore, NC1L
was in a one-car auto accident that caused him serious injury and landed him
in the hospital. Last night Pete Chamalian, W1RM posted the following after
his most recent visit with Bill:
Jan 17 at 6:48 PM
I visited Bill this afternoon at Alexandria Manor, 55 Tunxis Avenue,
Bloomfield, CT. He asked me to share the following with everyone:
After much consultation with my family and as a result of the life changing
accident I suffered in July, 2014, I have decided to relinquish my position
as Awards Manager at ARRL Hq and focus my full effort on physical therapy.
I have enjoyed my years at ARRL and the countless friends I have made within
the ham radio community.
I hope to maintain contact as best I can vie email and hope someday I will
be able to get back on the bands. Email can be sent to me at
BillMooreNC1L@Gmail.com and while I plan to read each and every one, I
cannot promise to reply in a timely manner.
With much gratitude and sincere thanks,
Wilfred (Bill) Moore, NC1L
Barry Shelley is in charge of HR and has been in communication with Bill
regarding his short-term and long-term disability benefits but I do not know
what recent communication Bill has sent to Barry, if any. Because of the
nature of his injuries the 2015-16 Plan did not envision Bill's return to
work.
Because this is a personnel matter we will be limited in what we can say
about it, but Barry will provide a more complete picture for you as
confidential information when we return to the office.

Dave Sumner K1ZZ
