Rod: I did a quick search on kb6zv@arrl.org <mailto:kb6zv@arrl.org> using google.com and found 4 separate instances where that e-mail address is out there on a web page of some sort to this day. In all cases, it appears as if they were articles written while you were President. I'm sure the spammer harvested the old address from one of those pages. And, just FWI, we still keep that address active so that you can get mail from people who might not know of your callsign change. 73, Barry, N1VXY -----Original Message----- From: Rod Stafford W6ROD [mailto:w6rod@ix.netcom.com] Sent: Friday, July 12, 2002 2:40 AM To: arrl-odv Subject: [ARRL-ODV:7453] Fwd: AcquireSolution requests your permission For the computer types or just those interested in unsolicited email "stuff" I have something to share with you. I recd an interesting email today. Not interesting because of the content but the way it was addressed. I haven't used kb6zv@arrl.org for about 4-5 years. And all the sudden an email turns up with that address. So far as I can tell, the ONLY place the ARRL HQ still has kb6zv@arrl.org is on the distribution list for the electronic "IN-Newsletter." I suppose someone could be using a 4-5 year old listing from HQ, right? But then of course if it came from a current "In-Newsletter" distribution list how did they get ahold of it? I assume some of you recd the same email as shown below. Did any of you who have changed your call in the last few years get it sent to your "old call" (@arrl.org, of course)? By the way, I was talking with a police officer today who works in the San Jose PD fraud unit and specializes in computer fraud cases. I asked him about the email solicitations from Nigeria. He was well aware of them. They've mentioned them at conferences over the last several years. He said I'd be amazed how many people are actually swindled out of some money each year as a result of those solicitations. 73, Rod p.s. One to think about: Attorney questioning the medical examiner.
