This is totally amazing! It seems like only a year could have passed, but thinking about it certainly brings out all of the improvements that have taken place and the two years it has taken to do it. I personally am so very proud of all you have accomplished - and I hear about it at EVERY hamfest. Our members see it and feel it, and it is all good - great in fact. Attitudes towards ARRL are changing for the better and having someone take the time to walk up and say so, is far different from just three short years ago. I think the "getting started feeling" is the right one. It is what motivates me, I know. Its "get it started", get it done and move on to the next and "get it started". The ARRL hopper of things to do is pretty full, I think we all have a lot of work ahead. Now, our members can see the accomplishments - ones that directly impact them in a very positive way. My most sincere thanks, David. - Dale WA8EFK On 9/28/2022 5:40 PM, Minster, David NA2AA (CEO) wrote:
I received a nice email today from Rick who reminded me that today was my 2 year anniversary as CEO. Who knew!
It is remarkable how fast 2 years has gone by. I dove into the deep end from the start and am still, without success, looking for a solid week on my calendar to take off. Only a bout with COVID offered me the ability to take a week off to rest!
I want to take a moment this evening to say Thank You, to */all of you/*.
I love what I do. What we do. There is light at the end of the tunnel – and it is not an oncoming train. We really are at the tipping point of changing the way we fund, budget, and operate this business in order to continue all the good work we do promoting and protecting this crazy hobby of hobbies that we love so much.
I remember an early discussion with Director Stratton, who coached me early on that there’s so much to do, put the 5 year strategy on the back burner and come back to it when there’s time, and when you know more. It was the best advice I’ve received in years. My view of where we are going on a macro basis has not changed. How we prioritize what’s needed and how we get there is quite different. I am happy to be now starting the hard work of building the strategy to continue to move us through the myriad challenges before us, not the least of which is the digital transformation of ARRL. It is remarkable how little I knew 2 years ago – that would matter – going into this exercise.
When I was asked in Denver in July 2020 what my commitment would be to this job if I were hired, I said I’d be happy to serve for 10 years.
Well, there’s the first 2 years gone, and in many ways I feel like we’re just getting started.
Again, thank you for your support. It is what gives me the strength of conviction to carry on through the trials of this difficult job.
With my warmest regards.
David
