Upcoming Meetings and Events Executive Committee: March 19 @ 8:30am - Chicago, IL Media & Public Relations Reported by Allen Pitts, W1AGP In addition to "the usual" ongoing items, HR-607 related issues have taken up most of the week. Information was passed to PIOs via the PR email reflector and began a lot of activity all over the country. Many comments, questions and suggestions have been received along with supporting notes telling us of local actions by clubs and individuals. Of particular note was an offer by Al Petrunti, KA1TCH who makes TV commercials, to create a special short video on the topic. We will be working on developing this quickly. Materials are also being sent to John Chwat for use in DC and, in an unrelated action, to the Las Vegas ARC for use at the NAB booth. Development Reported by Mary Hobart, K1MMH The 2011 Spectrum Defense Fund has received $30,212 in contributions from 356 donors so far this year, compared to $17,520 from 198 gifts for the same period in 2010. Production has begun on components for the first 2011 Defense Fund campaign. The Diamond Club has received $29,612 in contributions so far in 2011 compared to $42, 171 for the same period in 2010. The mail appeal encouraging monthly giving was mailed earlier in 2010 and is currently in production to mail the week of Feb 22. Production/Editorial Reported by Joel Kleinman, N1BKE Khrystyne Keane wrote and distributed the ARRL Letter and produced and voiced ARRL Audio News for February 17, 2011. Membership & Volunteer Programs Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N Field Organization/Public Service Team Chuck Skolaut compiled and sent out the monthly Official Observer Summary to all OOs, OOCs, and Section Managers. The Michigan OOC forwarded reports of unlicensed hunters using 2 meters in the section. This information was forwarded to the FCC. A report was received regarding fishermen using 3510 kHz (USB) off the coast of Massachusetts and OOs were alerted to monitor. Another similar report was received where fishermen (off the Washington coast) were heard using 2 meters. A beacon has been heard on 10126 kHz, and a single letter "P" beacon was heard on 3551 kHz. Laura Smith at the FCC updated us about some ongoing recent cases. Steve Ewald joined a teleconference discussion organized and held by members of the National Traffic System's Central Area Staff.
