Joe Carcia updated the web code practice files and their archives.  He began work on adding another page-to the web practice file page-that contains each Morse code character and how they sound (in MP3 format).  He processed regular QSL card requests.  Joe also processed three Qualifying Run certificates and one endorsement.  He continues with wok on the ENG van.

Scott Gee worked on slow and fast code practice files for the week.  Scott also processed some VUCC endorsements and certificates.

Field Organization/Public Service Team
A radio amateur and member from the Orange Section completed requirements this past week to become an Official Observer.  Chuck Skolaut compiled and forwarded the monthly ARRL Monitoring System/Intruder Watch report to the IARU Region 2 Monitoring Coordinator.  An update was received on the unidentified signal on 14.290 MHz, and a complaint was received regarding operation on 7.248 MHz.  Chuck answered a question about code practice on a repeater and one on operating overseas.

Connecticut Section Manager Betsey Doane hosted a meeting of her Connecticut Section cabinet members at ARRL Headquarters on Monday evening, May 16, with the help of Steve Ewald and Lisa Kustosik.  The Connecticut Section Field Organization Leaders discussed their activities over the past few months and shared ideas and plans for the rest of spring and the upcoming summer season.

The Field Organization Team is scheduled to count Alabama Section Manager election ballots on Tuesday, May 24.

Education & Technology Program
In addition to placing an ad in the March issue of Tech Directions, and the article placement in the April issue, we promoted the Teachers Institute through ARRL communications channels, including QST, ARRL News, ARRL mailing lists, Facebook and Twitter.  As of the end of April we received 38 applications for the two TI-1 sessions with 24 seats available and 6 applicants for the TI-2 session we had planned.  Last minute arrangements to change the TI-2 session to an additional TI-1 session did not work out as teachers have already made many summer commitments.  The TI-2 will be rescheduled for next summer, with a much larger applicant pool to draw from.  The Colorado school hosting an on-site TI received 9 applicants.  Acceptance letters and assignments will go out by May 15 so teachers can plan their travel and resources can be shipped.

ARISS
The ARISS program had a busy April with 14 scheduled contacts.  Internationally, contacts were successful in Canada, Romania, Argentina, Russia, the United Kingdom and Italy.

April contacts in the US included interviews via telebridge between astronaut Tim Peake, KG5BVI and students at the National Soaring Museum, Elmira, New York, on April 1, and with students from the Boys & Girls Club of Washington DC at the USA Science and Engineering Festival, Washington, D.C. on April 16.  A direct contact between students participating in the STEM Trajectory Initiative with Albuquerque Public Schools, Albuquerque New Mexico and astronaut Jeff Williams, KD5TVQ was successful on April 22.

Watch a recording of the interview with the National Soaring Museum, which includes HamTV video of Peake on the ISS recorded at the telebridge ground station in Italy.

On April 15 the spring proposal window for schools/ organizations desiring to host an ARISS contact during the January – June 2017 time period closed.  We received 19 proposals to review as potential hosts for contacts during the January –June 2017 period.
