ODV:

This is an update on employment discussions with Howard Michel.  We have a verbal agreement with Howard that we are in the process of putting in writing.

Howard is scheduled to return to China shortly after the middle of August.  At that time, he will tell his current employer, face-to-face, that he will be coming to the ARRL.  He believes, and I agree, that a face-to-face meeting is the professional approach.  We would want the same if the roles were reversed.  We need to give Howard the courtesy of being able to talk with his employer in a professional manner before the special Board meeting and before we make it public.

This means that the specially-called Board meeting will probably occur sometime in the week of August 20.  Assuming a positive vote, the public announcement of the new CEO would occur shortly after that meeting on a date that gives Howard sufficient time to speak to his current employer.

President Roderick and I realize that the timing of the special meeting is later than it was last time and that the three weeks between now and a meeting may be awkward as you interact with members.  To the extent you believe it is necessary to respond to inquiries, you may want to note that the process is a personnel matter which must remain confidential until the process is complete.

Because of contractual obligations to his employer, Howard will begin work in Newington on a part-time basis the first two weeks of October, full-time the last two weeks, and then assume the CEO position November 1, all subject to Board approval.

This information remains Board Confidential until such time as an announcement is made.
