I'm very pleased over the success of LoTW as well as with its use. The next major step would be to enhance the ability of DX stations to be able to register to use it. I understand a few steps have been taken (e.g. certifying some officials in foreign organizations to register overseas DXers in LoTW). I think we need to continue to seek new, creative ways to enroll vastly larger numbers of foreign DXers in LoTW to expand greatly its use and usefulness while maintaining the credibility of the DXCC operation. This, it seems to me, is the overall challenge. One "shortcoming" of LoTW in some people's minds seems concurrently to be one of its strengths. No QSLs are needed. The fact that no QSLs are required in the operation of LoTW does not, of course, preclude exchanging them, but I wonder if it would be desirable somehow to link or at least associate LoTW with an optional exchange of electronic QSLs. This would maintain the cost-containing aspect of LoTW while acknowledging the desire many people have for exchanging QSLs. We could even consider a collaborative effort with e-QSL. (God, forgive me the thought!) Just some off-hand thinking for what, if anything, it may be worth. Has LoTW become popular?
I hear HC8N and 5J1W (NN1N) had significant confirmations when they submitted their LOTW logs from CQWW CW. In the 20% range. Last time I looked, I had about 6-8% of my 3100 CQWW M/S QSOs confirmed. Still - it's successful without a whole lot of energy on our part - it'll be great to have WAS included for awards submission by the end of the year. And we've yet to tie into awards from other organizations. -- Tom ===== e-mail: k1ki@arrl.org ARRL New England Division Director http://www.arrl.org/ Tom Frenaye, K1KI, P O Box J, West Suffield CT 06093 Phone: 860-668-5444
