Lab

Product Review
The ARRL Lab has received quite a few Amateur Radio Products for testing. Bob Allison, working with Mark Wilson, has created a priority list of test work to be completed over the next few months. The Lab’s test equipment should be returning shortly from the calibration lab.
Bob Allison tested and wrote a review on a digital field strength meter.
QST
Mike Gruber is nearly done with the Generator article—Joel Hallas is the handling editor. Only two photos need to be shot next week.
RFI
Mike Gruber purchased a test instrument that will generate a simulated arc. With the help of Joe Carcia, we will use it for additional testing of Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters. So far, the only particularly problematic AFCI’s, in terms of RFI, have been a particular type of Eaton breaker.
Ed Hare and Mike Gruber attended a Cable TV Web meeting.
We had been asked by Ron Hranac, the Community Access Television representative on the ARRL RFI Committee, to provide some background on common RFI problems plaguing Amateur Radio. Apparently, Community Access Television is also experiencing RFI problems from consumer devices and power line noise.
Electronic Publications
A couple complaints have been received about the Garmin loader software needed to install the TravelPlus GPS program—it isn’t user friendly.
ARRL Historical Collection
Bob Allison and Jonathan Allen worked together on a plan for cataloging items contained in the ARRL Historical Collection.
