I see I was not alone and saw many of you waiting at the airport as well. After getting to the airport early enough for my Sunday morning flight to Philadelphia, my turboprop commuter flight was delayed getting into Hartford. After it did arrive late and unload passengers, we were lined up to board. At the last minute, the airport was closed for an hour, then closure was extended as many of you found out. Then US Air cancelled the flight altogether. Being a private pilot also, I suppose I preferred that action under the circumstances. I had checked the flight weather depiction earlier and figured we would all be lucky to get out. Finally, late afternoon, and refusing to fly all over creation with connections for hours to get home, I lucked out on a full direct America airlines flight where someone had given up a seat. Got in the door at 7 pm. It was all worth it for my first board gathering. I made new friends and enjoyed great company. I look forward to working with you all in the future. Hopefully I will have more time to talk with each of you before, during and after the next meeting. To those of you jokingly asking whether I am sorry I got myself into this situation of being a vice-director, naturally I am not and do think highly of what I experienced this last week. Conflict? Yes and that is healthy. Natural and expected tensions? Of course and it is normal in my experiences with both for-profit and non-profit boards. See you all soon. 73 Bob Famiglio, K3RF Vice-Director Atlantic Division -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv [mailto:arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org] On Behalf Of Doug Rehman Sent: Monday, January 19, 2015 3:39 PM To: 'Kent Olson'; 'David Woolweaver' Cc: 'ARRL ODV' Subject: [arrl-odv:23820] Re: Travel Would this be an appropriate time to propose Orlando for the January 2016 Board Meeting? :-) I arrived home to 70 degrees, partly sunny, and a light breeze. 73, Doug K4AC -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv [mailto:arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org] On Behalf Of Kent Olson Sent: Monday, January 19, 2015 3:30 PM To: David Woolweaver Cc: ARRL ODV Subject: [arrl-odv:23818] Re: Travel Yes Sunday was one to remember.......... I was probably one of the lucky ones who actually made it home via the airlines yesterday - even though they tried to strand me somewhere. Jim Fenstermaker, Tom Delaney, and I were on Delta 797, which due to icy conditions, took a detour off the taxiway. As a pilot, let me assure you that this is not an approved thing to do unless you happen to be in a bush plane. The pilot did his best not to slip off the taxiway, but we ended with our nose wheel about ten feet into the grass. After about an hour and a half (or maybe more - I lost track of time with all the excitement), they managed to get a tug to push us back on the taxiway. In the meantime, Bradley was shutdown due to moderate icing (very bad in pilot speak). We got towed back to the terminal where a cast of thousands (weary travelers) were trying to figure out what to do. There were a lot of the Board Family who were amongst the masses feverishly using their smartphones to get out of town. The airport opened about an hour later and the rush was on to get de-iced and "out of Dodge". I consider myself lucky, as I got to Minneapolis where a cold beer and hamburger was waiting for me while I watched the Packers give up their chance to go the the Super Bowl. Five hours later, I boarded an uneventful flight to Fargo. I know there were others stranded in various airports around the country, and hope all made it home safely. 73!
