The attached report, just released by the ITU and also available at
http://www.itu.int/en/ITU-D/Initiatives/SSDM/Pages/default.aspx , is a good illustration of the quiet efforts pursued through the International Amateur Radio Union to maintain the
visibility of Amateur Radio in the global telecommunications community. I have not yet read the entire report, but doing a search on the word “amateur” takes you to an impressive set of favorable references.
IARU President Tim Ellam, VE6SH, is a member of the SSDM Advisory Board (bio on page 116). Tim credits IARU Secretary (and ARRL Past President) Rod Stafford, W6ROD, with having provided much of the material through his work in Study Group
2 of the ITU Development Sector.
It is worth noting that Olof Lundberg, G0CKV, is also a member of the SSDM Advisory Board (bio on page 120). A couple of fun facts about Olof: he earned a Team Leader slot for WRTC2014 and with M0DXR came in #10 among the 59 competing teams.
(The average age of the team was 50: Olof 70, Mark 30.) If you worked EI7M in the ARRL DX Contest last month there’s a good chance that Olof was at the key.
