Regulatory Information Reported by Dan Henderson, N1ND After some back-and-forth discussions, we were able to finalize the proposal detailing the procedures for new or modified 70cm repeater coordinations in the vicinity of the Cape Cod Air Force Station PAVE PAWS site. Special thanks to Lou Harris, N1UEC of NESMC, David Pooley of US Air Force Space Command, and Col. Chris Gentry CO of the Cape Cod installation for their work on bringing this agreement to fruition. A web story on this was prepared for the editorium. The detailed PowerPoint and presentation for the Board of Director's meeting was finalized in a face-to-face meeting with General Counsel Chris Imlay, W3KD and conducted Thursday evening July 17th. Thanks to the Board for their comments and feedback as we continue to address this ongoing issue. Also on Wednesday and Thursday during the week we met with several Directors and Vice-Directors on a variety of topics while they were in for the board meeting. Updates of the "Logs Received" page for Field Day were posted several times during the week. Since Field Day is not able to use the robot for this function, it is done manually. To date approximately 1319 entries have been submitted using the www.b4h.net web applet. Several hundred additional paper and non-applet submissions have also been received and will be processed in the near future. Several updates to the CEPT/IARP forms / letters used by the VEC were provided. We also handled the routine queries on license renewals, reciprocal operating, and traveling with radio equipment. Development Reported by Mary Hobart, K1MMH The Thank you campaign to more than 18,000 Spectrum Defense donors has reached nearly $80,000 from more than 1600 donors. This revenue brings the YTD Defense revenue to more than $113,000 from more than 1800 donors. The 2008 W1AW Endowment campaign ha reached nearly $52,000 against a goal of $55,000. Three Development campaigns will mail on or about August 4 to three unique audiences of ARRL members and donors. The campaigns are seeking contributions for Education, Historic Preservation and the Lab Fund. ARRL expects funding of $10,000 from a South African radio Amateur who wishes to join the ARRL Maxim Society. Production/Editorial Reported by Joel Kleinman, N1BKE Khrystyne Keane wrote and distributed The ARRL Letter, Vol. 27, No. 28, for July 18, 2008. It went out to 70,545 subscribers. She also voiced and produced ARRL Audio News for July 18. Sales and Marketing Reported by Bob Inderbitzen, NQ1R July product sales have reached $159,543, on the way to this month's forecast of $203,513. A direct mailing for publications was mailed July 21. This is a 2nd hit promoting Hands on Radio, The ARRL Operating Manual and VHF Digital Handbook. Fuel surcharges continue to rise, causing increases from our manufacturers and freight carriers. Some areas include: 1.5% increase on foreign freight; 12% increase on ink cost for printing; 1% on domestic freight. The warehouse is helping to counter these costs, finding savings by utilizing alternate carriers to manage the bulk shipment of QST. Already, this approach has yielded savings of $500/month! Exhibit Kit fulfillment has been completely moved to the warehouse. This reduces the amount of handling between HQ and the warehouse. Now, all event materials-brochures and other handouts--are inventoried in one location; all distribution is administered through an ordering and fulfillment process; inventory levels are automated, triggering reorder alerts. The Exhibit Kit area on the website (see http://www.arrl.org/brochures/) is going through some updates including adding more brochures, signs, display materials and other organizational collateral. All exhibit materials can be ordered online (a credit card is required for freight costs). The Warehouse crew fulfilled 1,018 packages for publication and product orders, shipped 348 free book membership premiums, and sent July QST mailing supplements. Membership & Volunteer Programs Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N Field Organization/Public Service Team South Carolina Section Manager Jim Boehner, N2ZZ, has been nominated to run for another term of office starting in January, 2009. Section Manager Election ballots from Western New York and Idaho Sections are starting to arrive. Members have until August 15 to return their filled-in ballots. Leona Adams continues to help Section Managers with section budget correspondence and the Field Organization data base. Steve Ewald and Dennis Dura have continued to work on and review the page layout of the Public Service column for September QST. Field Organization Reports were also compiled for QST. ARRL HQ is planning to host the Workshop for new Section Managers on October 10, 11, and 12. After receiving a report of interference on several 75 meter frequencies, it was determined to be coming from a research facility in Eastern Massachusetts. The information was forwarded to the Boston FCC District office. That resulted in a prompt action by the facility within hours and the interference has ceased. Chuck Skolaut notes that several complaints regarding an operation on 14275 MHz were received along with a report of unlicensed fishermen near Cape Cod on 75 meters. Both Chuck and Steve were tour guides around HQ, and Chuck also assisted the DXCC Branch by entering application data into the database.
