Fred, thanks for the suggestion.

One thing we need to consider is that periodically we get comments from constituents alleging that we are in bed with the vendors/manufacturers, and that we are money hungry, i.e. the Technician enhancement proposal was all about selling more radios..... Even though you have done a good job of crafting an explanation somewhat around that notion, I suspect we would have some eyebrows raised.

I wonder if there is a way to accomplish what you suggest without the formality of a Board motion, like just tell the Legislative Advocacy Committee to get it done. Also, I wonder if someone at HQ should be involved? I would hope that we have good contacts at HQ to have such frank discussions with those we have advertising connections with, and if we don't, well, we should.

Just food for thought before the Board meeting.

Subject: [arrl-odv:28303] Motion to Meet with Vendors

Colleagues,

I feel strongly that ARRL should be inquiring of vendors to the Amateur Radio Community as to what they see is in our future, and “around the bend.”

The purpose of the meetings proposed by the attached motion is NOT to displace any meetings that the ARRL advertising manager may have with advertisers in Dayton, but rather to inform the Board of what vendors are thinking about. I believe we may have something to learn from vendors (our manufacturers and retailers).

Suggestions on wording this motion are, of course, welcome.
