very well done report.. concise and thoughtful.. As a side question - is there any quantitative information regarding the relative success (PASS) rates compared to instruction modes and durations..? I'm sure that we would all prefer that new licensees really knew the materials, the fact remains that 99%+ of our learning happens AFTER we receive our Tech license (and certainly during the upgrade process to General/Extra). Operating and continued study contribute greatly to that life-long learning (that's what makes Ham Radio such a great hobby). I know that the thrill of Amateur Radio (for me) didn't start until after I got my FCC license and was able to operate - that first test was just a necessary "evil". And that was in the days when kids (and adults) had fewer distraction - today.. well, you know.. You will find attached the report as requested by motion Frenaye 1 from the July 2013 Board Meeting. Tom has reviewed the report and he has recommended that it be sent to all Board Members. I agree with his recommendation.
This report was written by Debra Johnson, K1DMJ, the Manager of our Education Services Department. Debra put a lot of thought and research into this report and I found that it contains some excellent information and recommendations.
The Motion asked “That staff be directed to investigate the feasibility, benefits, and costs of preparing training materials crafted for shorter training sessions, such as weekend, 3 day , 4 day, evening etc.”
