We all know that Paul wasn’t the fave of the field folks. We have a CEO in his first year, who has made some good hires. The board committee took most of a year to hire someone who contributed little except cancelling ARES Connect. Given our Articles of Association and by-laws, and competency in the CEO position, I believe that we allow Staff to fill this position, reporting to someone who has a full time executive sponsor who can help them deal with ARES activation and the full time political realities of ARES relationships. -- Mickey Baker Director, Southeastern Division ARRL Phone (561) 320-2775 Email: n4mb@arrl.org From: arrl-odv <arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org> on behalf of Michael Ritz <w7vo@comcast.net> Date: Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 9:37 AM To: arrl-odv <arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org> Subject: [arrl-odv:32586] Paul Gilbert, KE5ZW, gone? CONFIDENTIAL: I just read the CEO report, and first of all, thank you David for a very comprehensive and frank report on HQs state of affairs. It is greatly appreciated. I noted that it appears that Paul Gilbert, KE5ZM, our very recently hired Director of Emergency Management is gone already? Was he not a good match with the job description, was it lack of job performance, or just exactly what happened? It is my understanding that the EMDSC spent quite a lot of time vetting the candidates, and now the one they hand picked and HQ hired is gone already (if true). That is certainly discouraging, as it will also be for the membership on the ARES side of the ARRL. Is the plan to reinstate the EMDSC committee and have them start over, or is this now to be a hire orchestrated by HQ staff? Perhaps something to be discussed in the Board meeting. 73; Mike W7VO
