Just to close the loop on this: The FCC announced the makeup of this committee yesterday. Bob Weinstock was not selected for appointment from among more than 120 nominees, but he had this to say (I have cut and pasted from a couple of different emails):

I want to thank you and ARRL for nominating me for membership on the FCC Disability Advisory Committee. It was a huge honor.

For what it's worth, I know 14 committee members personally, and know of several others, and they are all solid. Andrew Phillips is an outstanding choice for chair. Here's a nice piece about him: http://nad.org/news/2013/7/white-house-recognizes-nad-policy-counsel-andrew-phillips-champion-change. I also just successfully nominated him for our Outstanding Young Alumnus Award here at Gallaudet. He's my former student, and was also a member for two years of my College Bowl team. He will shine in this role.

There are eight deaf and two deaf-blind people on the committee, plus one CODA (hearing child of deaf adults) and two individuals who have worked in the Deaf community for all or most of their careers.

Bob

Subject: [arrl-odv:23599] FCC Disability Advisory Committee

Last week the FCC announced the creation of the Disability Advisory Committee and sought nominations. It happens that we have a highly qualified person, Bob Weinstock, W3RQ, in the ranks of our past Vice Directors. President Craigie has authorized me to submit a nomination for Bob.

While his service as New England Division Vice Director was some time ago, Bob helped us more recently when we were looking for a venue for a Development reception in the Washington, DC area. He kindly arranged for the use of facilities at Gallaudet University where he is Director of Enrollment Communications in the Office of Admissions.

The work of the Disability Advisory Committee may not touch directly on the Amateur Radio Service but it may be useful for the FCC to view the ARRL as a resource in this field.
