The larger problem with the retirement of Cross, as I mentioned to the Board in January, is that he likely won't be replaced at all. Instead, amateur regulatory work, according to Cross, will fall to Scot Stone, Bill's immediate superior, who is the Mobility Division's Part 90 regulatory guy. Scot is widely criticized in land mobile radio circles and in our experience is sometimes quite difficult and often indifferent to our concerns. 73, Chris W3KD Sent from my iPhone

Our happy dance at this news should be tempered somewhat. Bill's been a frustrating pain in the neck more than once over the years -- as his former Division Director I had some conversations with him off the record that made me want to throttle him -- but he is an active radio amateur and genuinely cares about amateur radio. His successor is likely to continue the PITA bit but probably will not share Bill's personal feelings for our radio service.
