My first thought would be to take a look at the coverage for the ARRL Affiliated Club Liability Insurance to see if sexual abuse would be covered. Or the ARRL staff person that deals with the Club Insurance program could get an written opinion from the insurance company that intentional torts are covered. Looking at the list of things on the ARRL web site that are covered it may be that the existing insurance covers such things. Even if the insurance company doesn't cover it, they may be able to add a provision to the existing coverage that would cover those types of liability. That may cost a little more money but since the current premium is pretty reasonable, the extra coverage or rider would likely be a lot less than the $1500 quoted. Of course, maybe the insurance company would add a provision that required a police records check to see that there are no sex registrants or anyone with any criminal record is working at the event. Many other organizations such as Rotary require such a records check for anyone working on public service or fundraising activities that involve public contact. Probably not a bad idea but those are the times we live in. Just some thoughts on "Super Bowl" Sunday morning. This came across my e-mail this morning from the NLI affiliated club coordinator, Richie, K2KNB. Apparently, liability insurance for sexual harassment is now required if an event has attendees under 18. This is a requirement imposed by local Government when using their facilities. Has anyone else seen something similar? This adds $1500 to the cost, if anyone under 18 is attending. The choice is to either pony up the $1500 or exclude minors under 18 years. See below: "There is however, a more important change affecting LIMARC and something that may affect you at some point. LIMARC uses a county owned facility that now requires us to have a sexual abuse insurance policy if there is anyone under 18 attending our event. Under 18? There are ham radio operators under 18. The cost of such a policy is at this time approximately $1500 for a three day event. We now have to decide whether to spend that money or forbid anyone under 18 from entering the site. That includes parents bringing their children." 73 Ria, N2RJ _______________________________________________ arrl-odv mailing list arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org https://reflector.arrl.org/mailman/listinfo/arrl-odv
