The Repeater Directory was sent to the printer. Lab Reported by Ed Hare, W1RFI Product Review Bob Allison and Steve Ford produced two Product Review Videos for Digital QST. Since the topic was Software Defined Transceivers, the large video monitor in the Lab came in handy, since one of the transceivers can display eight receivers at the same time. Travel Bob Allison will be traveling to Vermont this weekend for two speaking engagements at Ham-Con in Burlington, Vermont. In one forum, Bob will explain the work the ARRL Lab does for ARRL members; the other forum will be about, "What do all those numbers mean?" Attendees will learn how to interpret QST Product Review Data Tables. QST Product Reviews help to answer the question, "What radio should I buy"? W1HQ The new 70 bcm DMR Motorola MotoTurbo repeater is currently operating at reduced power, as the SWR is quite high-the antenna won't be looked at until weather improves. Epubs Zack Lau has been helping folks migrate from the old exam review CDs to the new exam web site. Field Services & Radiosport Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N Field Organization/Public Service Team Joseph Palsa, K3WRY, has been appointed Virginia Section Manager as of February 20 to complete the current term of office that continues until March 31, 2016. Joe, from Richmond, succeeds Carl Clements, W4CAC, of Portsmouth, who has stepped down due to increased work commitments. Dave Patton, NN1N, made the appointment of Palsa in consultation with Roanoke Division Director Dr Jim Boehner, N2ZZ. Carl Clements had been the Virginia Section Manager since 2008, and he also had served in the post from 2001 until 2006. A number of interference type reports were received this past week, and they are being investigated. One involved interference on 7268 kHz to the Waterway Net. After monitoring the net, the most likely explanation was that an Asian jamming station was targeting a shortwave broadcast station on 7270 kHz. Several instances of interference to the YLSSB Net on 14332 kHz were reported. Other problem frequencies involved 3843, 7185, and 14313 kHz. A report of an unlicensed individual transmitting on local repeaters and later leaving threats via voice mail was reported, and this is being followed up on in Western New York. Chuck Skolaut fielded questions about operating close to band edges and the wording of net preambles.
