Thanks - good to hear it wasn't caused from outside.

Was it caused by hardware failure or software failure?  Do we have current backups prior to the failure?

Bill, your question and my status update crossed somewhere in cyberspace.

The corrupted file issue was entirely internal -- it was not the 
result of anything external, either deliberate or otherwise.
