Tnx for the info, Dave. Good yo know My biggest question actually relates to CAP. At your convenience, please. Jim Jim Weaver K8JE Sent from my I-Phone On Jun 6, 2013, at 2:42 PM, "Sumner, Dave, K1ZZ" <dsumner@arrl.org> wrote:
Jim, that’s a very big question and one that would take a while to answer in detail.
However, I can give you one illustration of our relationship with the United States Power Squadrons. Several times in recent years – most recently just last weekend – a team of operators from the Power Squadrons has come to Newington and put W1AW on the air, providing visibility for Amateur Radio within the Power Squadrons and vice versa. Coincidentally, the Power Squadrons are also celebrating their 100th anniversary next year which offers another opportunity for collaboration.

Dave,
I just finished reviewing the current issue of CAP's periodic journal. This made me think of the MOU we have with this (and other) organizations. My takeaway is that our existing MOUs give us active or potential entry into groups that are relatively like-minded with ARRL. In practice, though, I have to wonder if there is any on-going, practical value in the MOUs with CAP and the US Power Squadron.
My question is what benefit are we deriving from the MOUs with these latter two groups? Unlike the MOUs with BSA and Red Cross, from my admittedly limited view it seems we are deriving nothing more than a warm, fuzzy feeling. Is there any sort of co-recruiting or other cooperative effort taking place between them and us? They don't seem to be encouraging their chapters/units to use Amateur Radio any more than we appear to be encouraging our ARES units to link up with CAP or the Power Squadron. Similarly, what actual cooperative action is occurring through the MOUs we have with the organizations I've not mentioned?
Tnx,
Jim
