CL&P says 770,000 customers in Connecticut are without power and that it will take a week or more to restore everyone. As best I can tell by calling the fax number (the machine is not on backup power and it picks up) the power is on at HQ so we should be able to open tomorrow, but a lot of staff probably will not be able to make it in. Barry Shelley reports his road is blocked in both directions by fallen trees.
I expect to lose the Internet and wireline phone later today; if Tropical Storm Irene is any indication, AT&T's batteries won't last. Cellphone is OK here but a lot of cell sites around the state are out.
