It was nice reading this on the YCCC e-mail reflector today. Sounds like we're making some progress! -- Tom

I've been thinking of writing a little Op - Ed piece for the next Scuttlebutt. Rather than get vilified and abused for misuse, I'll take my chances here on the reflector.
Some of us think the League, on balance, is good for ham radio. Others may think the ARRL is a great conspiracy designed to deprive of us of our personal liberties. If you're in the latter category, you probably are not a member and you don't need to read further. Press delete now.
My point is this: In 1972 I signed up for life membership at the then astronomical fee of something like $300. Seems like a bargain now. In the past thirty years, other than a few bucks here and there, how much revenue has the ARRL gotten from me? Nada, zilch, nothing, zero. Maintaining the presence in Washington and Geneva necessary to hold on to our bands costs a lot of money, not to mention other things like contests, awards, a lab, and publications which don't fully pay for themselves.
The League's Diamond Club fund raising campaign has started. I made a small (very small) donation on line. Took maybe a minute. My guilt for being a freeloader is assuaged for this year and the IRS allows a deduction to boot. It seemed like the right thing to do. I might live another thirty years.
