Folks, While I agree with the basic sentiment of specifying a "time in ARRL" requirement, I very much agree with those who suggest some flexibility, such as Jim, below. How about specifying a lapse of no more than one year in the last 4? Of course, should a situation come up that might call for some adjustment this, I would assume that it would be in the Selection Committee's discretion to adjust accordingly by looking at a candidate anyway. Ultimately, the Board will get to vote on the finalists, and if they feel a lapse has been too long, they could, and no doubt would, take that into account in casting their votes. Does this solution work for people? Let's also remember that we are talking about a job description, not a bylaw. I've applied to plenty of jobs where I was string on most requirements, but a tad weak on one or two. This is typical of job descriptions and the employment. But I do not favor eliminating otherwise qualified candidates who might have missed a renewal deadline. If a lawyer misses a renewal deadline for required bar membership, the organized bar has ways (usually a petition and a fine), but they don’t take away the chance to be a lawyer.
