ODV,
A copy of the 60-day waiver is attached. The action clause is: “The waiver is limited to amateur radio operators in the United States and its territories using publicly documented data protocols that are compatible with FCC rules, with the exception of the data rate limit waived here, for those directly involved with HF hurricane relief communications.” NOTE: any protocol meeting the stated requirement is permitted (not PACTOR IV that was approved in earlier waivers, and not just VARA either if there is something else out there); and the waiver extends for 60 days to include any additional hurricanes during this period, not just Ida (which was the subject of the oral waiver). Also, if the Pacific area season extends beyond this (?) we can apply for an extension to cover that as needed. 73, Dave K3ZJ PS They did make an error in a footnote on who submitted the petition (it was ARRL HQ, not me), and also I don’t believe VARA uses a modem – it uses sound cards -- but these are non-substantive nits and they got it out on the first business day after it was submitted. You’d have to have worked there to appreciate how many people that a written grant, even an emergency temporary action, must review and approve before its release.
