Gentlemen This is an ill-conceived change and we should expect it to not be well received by the SMs. I have spoken with the SMs for the West Gulf's two largest sections — neither was consulted regarding the fiat. Both have been in contact recently with Ewald and others at HQ; at no time were they advised of this proposed change or queried as to the impact it might have on their relationship with their Members. Both of the SMs oppose the change; based on their explanations for their opposition, I expect our other two SMs will have the same opinion. Look it up on the website? That requirement disenfranchises our Members who do not have computers — while that number may be decreasing, it is not an insignificant number. Look it up on the website? And how user friendly is the website? "/Almost all communications by members to ARRL representatives is electronic/" does not reflect the experience of the Tips Of The Spear — the SMs [and it does not match my experience as VD]. We are a Member supported entity. Any policy that makes it more difficult for those Members to contact their elected representatives — in this case, the SMs — or that has the potential to make it more difficult for those representatives/SMs to hear from their Members is a policy that diminishes a Member's perception of value and benefit and has the potential to diminish the respect of the volunteers for the League. Policies that impact any subset of our volunteers should never be implemented without at least consulting with the affected volunteers; while their opinions might not be outcome determinative, the basic respect of asking for their input goes a long ways toward maintaining their support and respect. While the decision was certainly well intentioned, it nonetheless should be reversed. 73 _______________________________________ John Robert Stratton N5AUS Office Telephone:512-445-6262 Cell:512-426-2028 P.O. Hi Dan,
Thanks for doing this. Text is below.
Becky
In an effort to continue to streamline the print edition of /QST /and to drive members to digital resources that are more efficient to access and maintain, we will be making changes to page 16 of /QST/, which lists the Section Managers by Division.
Given that almost all communications by members to ARRL representatives is electronic, the postal mailing addresses and telephone numbers of the Section Managers will no longer appear on page 16. We will run only the Section Manager’s name, call sign, and arrl.org e-mail address.
Postal mailing addresses and telephone numbers will still be available through the Section Manager listings on the ARRL website, at www.arrl.org/sections <http://www.arrl.org/sections>. This web URL will appear on page 16 of /QST./
These changes will be implemented with the February 2018 issue of /QST./
