This does not have to be a reason for reducing this bandwidth. But I am not sold on the idea of further expanding it for the sake of higher audio fidelity or a more robust signal/data structure. Look at how streaming video signals have been compressed for commercial satellite and cable TV signals. I have to believe the amateur radio community will find methods for stuffing more information into a maximum 3 KHz bandwidth. Widening the bandwidth beyond 3KHz would be a big negative incentive for such data compression development. - Dick, W9GIG
