I have been following the LightSquared situation on my "Urgent Communications Today" Newsletter. I have tried to send links to ODV, but the links are quite large and cumbersome. Although not discussed in this article, there was a rumor that LightSquared is near bankruptcy. Guess that's why they have "come out swinging"! This will be a good news story to watch, as it is exceedingly unlikely that the millions (billions?) of GPS users will be compensated for retrofitting their units to deal with the potential interference! On the other hand, we hope that all GPS manufacturers will engineer their newer units to deal with future interference potential. While members of course want their GPS devices to continue to work, the principle of basing allocations decisions on receiver susceptibility to overload is very dangerous.
