Hi, Here's an update on Digital QST downloads for Linux. Digital QST could always be viewed in a web browser on the Linux operating system, however, since we launched Digital QST in June, there have been questions from Linux users about downloading Digital QST to their Linux device. Dr. Martin Ewing, AA6E, who assists us in the ARRL Lab as a volunteer, is a Linux expert and he came up with a solution to this problem. Magdalena Owczarska has posted this on the Digital QST FAQ page on our website located here: http://www.arrl.org/digital-qst-faq I have also pasted the FAQ into this email for your reference. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------- How can I view digital QST using Linux?- <http://www.arrl.org/digital-qst-faq> The following procedure has been tested on Ubuntu 12.10 32 bit (current) with Firefox (v16.0). Other Linux versions using Google Chrome may work as well, but are not guaranteed: * If you do not have Flash installed using Linux: Go to Ubuntu Software Center, search for "Flash" and select " Adobe Flash Plugin." You may need to click "more info" and "multiverse" to start. After installation, quit and restart system, and view digital QST while online. * To save and view digital QST offline using Linux: * Install Adobe Air on Ubuntu <http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2012/08/how-to-install-adobe-air-on-ubuntu-12 04.html> * View QST <http://www.arrl.org/qst> on your browser * On the toolbar, select "Save to your desktop" * On the installation page, select "Download & install your offline publication" * Choose the option to "open with Adobe Air Application Installer" (Each issue of QST is installed as a software app.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------- Thank you, Martin, for helping us out with this one. 73, Harold Harold Kramer, WJ1B Chief Operating Officer ARRL -the national association for Amateur Radio 225 Main Street Newington, CT 06111 (860) 594 -0220 www.arrl.org
