Sales and Marketing

Reported by Bob Inderbitzen, NQ1R

Circulation and Member Services Manager Amy Hurtado has decided to leave the ARRL staff for a new job opportunity.  Her last day is Friday, April 19.  We thank Amy for her 7 years of dedicated service to the organization…and well all miss her!

ARRL earned $8,017 during Q1 2013 for the ARRL Visa Card, administered by US Bank ($7,950 for Q1 2012).  ARRL earns royalties for new cards issued, annual renewals (every 12 months a card remains open), and on card use.  Email solicitations sent by ARRL continue to be the largest source of new card acquisition.  Representatives for US Bank will help represent the ARRL Visa Card in our exhibit area at Dayton Hamvention in May.

May QST mailed to members April 2-8.  The email notification for the digital edition was circulated to 113,552 members on Monday, April 15.

Final plans for ARRLs participation at 2013 Dayton Hamvention are in full gear.  Hotel confirmation numbers were emailed to team members.  Materials shipping to Dayton need to be on the skids by or before May 7.

A large membership campaign will mail on April 29.  This is the last large campaign until September.

Membership & Volunteer Programs

Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N

Field Organization/Public Service Team

Chris Brewer, N5GMJ, of Saginaw, Texas, has been appointed the North Texas Section Manager as of April 30.  Dave Patton, Manager of the Membership and Volunteer Programs Department, made the appointment after Walt Mayfield, KE5SOO, announced his resignation because of the press of work and family commitments.  Dave received and reviewed Mayfield’s recommendation and consulted with Director Woolweaver before making the appointment official.  Mayfield has been the North Texas Section Manager since October 2011.

Chris, N5GMJ, who is presently the Official Observer Coordinator in North Texas, will complete the current term of office as North Texas Section Manager that continues nearly two full years until March 31, 2015.

Chuck Skolaut compiled and forwarded the monthly ARRL Monitoring System/Intruder Watch report to the IARU Region 2 Coordinator.  Updated information regarding hang glider pilots using 2 meters in Northern Florida disclosed that several do, indeed, hold licenses but are negligent in properly identifying.  After contact by an Official Observer, they indicated they would identify in the future.

A report was received from Arizona regarding interference to the amateur bands.  Further investigation points to a pool pump as the source, and it’s in the process of being followed up on.  Also, there is a new FCC District Director, Charles Cooper, at the Los Angeles District Office.

Sincerely Compiled by,

Lisa Kustosik, KA1UFZ
