At the request of the Programs and Services Committee, the Executive Committee has approved the combining of two awards: the Herb S. Brier Instructor of the Year Award and the ARRL Professional Instructor of the Year Award. One award, the Herb S. Brier Instructor of the Year Award, will now be made for which both volunteer instructors and teaching professionals will be eligible. The reason for combining the two awards is that there are few nominations for Professional Instructor of the Year, and the distinction between compensated and uncompensated instructors is somewhat artificial.
The reason why action by the EC was necessary is that the awards were created by the Board, so modifications must be done by either the Board or the EC. P&SC wanted to have the solicitation of nominations in February QST, so time was of the essence.
