I am glad to see this decision. Although I recognize the credentials of both Director Widen and Director Rehman are well beyond my 'pay grade', I also understand the paramount importance of the matter before us. It appears to me that the IT department has taken some swift albeit temporary actions, we, however, must accept the fact that our 'total' computer assets need to be reviewed and plan for upgrading and protection, needs to be developed. This of course is going to cost money, a fact of life, but necessary. The A & F will be meeting in a little over a month from now, and may be able mitigate any dissatisfactions or disagreements as to how to move forward (or to quote Leroy in the Movie The Mexican, "regulate the funkiness"). We need clear calm heads and precise information in order to find accurate and long-lasting solutions; so let's take a step back and see what A&F resolves and/or recommends. Purchasing a new computer, recently, I was stunned to see how quickly technology changes; and with those changes the 'bad guys' work to find ways to defraud and disrupt. In my short career as a police officer, I found that bad actors will find away around any attempt to secure or protect physical assets. The solution we find today may not be the solution in five years.....or even two years. 73 and good Hamming (watch for W1AW/7 on JT65 in November) Jim Pace, K7CEX NW Division -------------------------------------------------- From: "Sumner, Dave, K1ZZ" <dsumner@arrl.org> Sent: Saturday, October 04, 2014 5:34 PM To: "arrl-odv" <arrl-odv@arrl.org> Subject: [arrl-odv:23384] Executive Committee meeting
The Executive Committee met all day today, followed by a pleasant dinner at Corky's in Memphis with Past Director Henry Leggette, WD4Q. Henry is in good health and spirits and asked to be remembered to his friends on the Board.
While the meeting minutes will be available in due course, President Craigie has asked me to report that the EC considered Director Rehman's request with regard to the study of the possible creation of an Information Technology Strategic Planning Committee. The committee's unanimous opinion was that the Board action referring the matter to the A&F Committee should stand.
