Subject: ARRL brand standards for email and other correspondence

Hi,

With our Outlook software being upgraded, now is a good time to request that everyone comply with a consistent email standard and signature. This will make us more professional and consistent in our email correspondence and more uniformly branded to our members and general public.

As a rule,

·        Do not use graphics and colored backgrounds in email correspondence.

·        Do not include graphics and logos within an email signature.

·        Do not include taglines, slogans or quotes within an email signature, unless your department manager has approved of them.

Here are signature recommendations.  Please follow these examples.

-----------------------------------------------

For some background information on how we represent ourselves, at the second Board of Directors meeting in 1999, the Board adopted a resolution that emphasizes using the abbreviation "ARRL," rather than “American Radio Relay League.”

“ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio®” became a registered trademark in 2011.

When preparing a letter, email message or other text document, the following formats are preferred:

ARRL - The national association for Amateur Radio®

or

ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio®

or

            ARRL

The national association for Amateur Radio®

Note that each of these formats is followed by the registered trademark symbol ®. This symbol  needs only to be used once within a letter or email—usually in your signature.

Thanks and I appreciate everyone’s cooperation on this issue.

73,

Harold Kramer, WJ1B
