Joel, et al, RE: Rich Moseson's Most Recent Editorial My first reaction to this editorial was disappointment and disgust. Then I stepped back a bit, took a couple of deep breaths and tried to view it from the "other" side. I still found it very disappointing and disgusting; however, I also thought of what we might do to avoid such criticisms in the future. To this end, I think we might be a bit more gratuitously open with our members. Don't get me wrong. I don't think we are a secret society, but I believe that in this day of immediate communication and expectation of immediate communication, we can be smarter in what we do and how we do it. To play around with a couple of thoughts, how do we really defend not having a "visitors' gallery" of any sort at our meetings? Even in the Marriott, we could put a row or two of chairs (enough for a dozen or so spectators) in the Board room. We could also take our second meetings to different venues around the country and welcome locals to our attitude adjustment sessions -- Dutch treat, of course. This would let them see that none of us of tails and horns, and don't even carry pitch forks. Just a couple of thoughts to play with. We are certainly resourceful folks or we wouldn't be directors. This means we as a Board can come up with a couple of means for making our members know we freely exchange information with them. And, yes, I know we as individual directors rub elbows with our own members, but this does not seem to be enough any more. To play on the time-honored axiom, we not only need to do things properly but we need to be viewed as doing things properly. FWIW. I don't think I have seen this specific editorial, although I did read one he sent out concerning RM-11306 that pretty disheartening to see coming from Rich. All I can say is if I were Rich and was sitting back watching the League grow with a considerable amount of positive attitude from radio amateurs nationwide and my magazine subscriptions weren't keeping pace, I'd be a little sour as well. Too bad, as Rich is on the ARRL Public Relations Committee! 73 Joel W5ZN p.s. Hi All, I just read Rich Moseson's editorial about the ARRL being a secret society. His comment about "saying one thing while doing another" really chapped my jaws!
