Here on the left coast our first large hamfest in February has already been canceled, but ones scheduled for March and beyond are still on, including SEA-PAC. Whether or not they stay that way will is still up in the air. I will say that we should probably have several plans ready. As far as budgetary planning, go "all-in". (We can always increase Rick's salary if we come in under budget! ;-). I think we should have both a "minimal" plan, and a plan that assumes things will be close to normal, then adjust as needed. I don't think the country will be back to "full on" by then, and I can't see there being 30,000 hams that will be fully ready to venture out of their basements into the light quite yet. We won't really know until we get over the winter flu season, when COVID is expected to resurge. 73; Mike W7VO

Tough question. Who knows what it will look like 7.5 months from now. I'm already hearing from folks saying that regardless of the situation they will not travel until 2022, even with a vaccine. I suspect we will have some Staff who will refuse to go to Dayton out of fear. I suspect we will have some Board members that will feel that way, too. Frankly, I can't say I'm very excited about the thought of standing at the meet and greet area and bumping elbows with hundreds of hams that I normally shake hands with every year. We just don't know how things will look. However, if Dayton happens, the ARRL must be there. Consequently, I'd recommend that we budget for a regular Dayton as a contingency. Just because we have money in the budget doesn't mean we have to spend it, and ya'll have heard me say that before, if it's cancelled or if we decide to cut back attendance and presentation.
I don't want to derail this thread about Dayton, but it's timely to think about the January Board meeting. I'll be discussing this with the EC for some initial thoughts. I really prefer to have an in-person meeting but Connecticut is likely to still be in somewhat lockdown mode. I was up there this week as you know and the Marriott told me that as of right now they will not have any large events until next April. I've already had several Board members suggest Denver again. We will need to decide this in the next few weeks.

Michael Kalter, W8CI, appeared on DXE’s FB live stream yesterday and stated “We are planning on, absolutely, having Hamvention”
As we are now going through the 2021 budgeting and planning process, we’ll need to take some kind of a view as to what our presence there will look like.
Budget and plan for the full boat, and make adjustments if and when dictated by the circumstances.
Thoughts?
