To follow up on yesterday’s discussion:
As stated in the FCC's rules, a 1 X 1 special event call sign is a "call sign", and a self-assigned indicator can be used with any amateur radio "call sign". The FCC rules do not distinguish among types of call signs for purposes of adding self-assigned indicator(s).
The published FCC staff summary is consistent with the above. (1) An amateur special event station may transmit the identification announcement using a special event call sign, and (2) any amateur station, explicitly including a special event station (i.e., one that can use a special event call sign) may include one or more voluntary indicators.
