I dunno about economics, but speaking as a person who has two graduate degrees in folklore studies, I wouldn't write off voodoo ;-) If we told the public that we're giving ICOM a finder's fee to help recruit League members, we'd stir up more of the old "the ARRL is in bed with the equipment manufacturers" rant that we've all heard way too much of already. Presented as a valuable coupon offer, however, everybody looks like a good guy ... as indeed they should. I hope the idea works and can be expanded to include other companies on the for-profit side of the aisle. 73 - Kay N3KN
