Ria, it was a horrible storm line. I live on a hill and cansee a long ways and was watching the wall cloud in the lightning. The weatherwas on TV and I was looking at the map as they pointed right at my location. Atthe very same time my iphone went off saying take cover tornado warning, andabout 5 seconds later my power went off. I had 60 mph wind (one tree down), butI think it only passed over without touching down. It touched down 40 miles northeast of me as an F1 taking the usualSW to NE path tornados take and I followed it as it proceeded on a NE path forabout 200 miles. You can draw almost a straight-line SW-NE path from my house alongthe path of destruction to Mayfield, KY that got wiped out. Some of you have heard some of my tornado stories. I live intornado alley and it’s not uncommon for them to hang out of a cloud, clip myridge line, and then go back into the cloud. I’ve had 3 confirmed tornados on ourproperty. About 40 years ago, back when I was in Section management,I was giving an ARRL Forum at a hamfest in west Arkansas 120 miles from home whena tornado hit. Our neighbor called Holly at the hotel and informed us that theycould not see our house on the ridge line and that her husband had gone tocheck on it. That sure made for a few frantic minutes waiting for him toreturn. He came back and reported that the second floor of our house was blownaway. I recall that we found debris and insulation from our home over a mileaway. That’s happened twice to ourhouse. I’ve only lost one tower due to a tornado. Thanks for checking on us.
