Excellent, Dick.

I called my son-in-law, who works in the House Office of Legislative Counsel, for a reality check. He told me that perfecting amendments are not uncommon in bills as complex as this. He also said we ought to feel good about how anxious the committee staff was to keep us from calling out the troops.

Dave and all,

Entirely unexpectedly, Ed Parkinson also called me.

He wanted to make sure I heard the information directly "from the
horse's mouth."

He sounded very cooperative, and suggested calling him directly if
there was any way he could help. I assume he said the same thing to
Dave, and we now have a pretty good path to start down should anything
ever resurface.
