Good Morning All, In my recent meetings with my division cabinet, one of our discussions involves the expectations of a necessary dues increase in the near future. A number of suggestions have been made in these meetings regarding a dues schedule that incorporates various levels of membership, one of which would be a membership fee based on the receipt of a paper QST vs. a digital QST vs. receipt of both paper and digital. I believe that a cost/benefit study would need to be done to consider this issue properly. I also think that we need to consider this question as part of the larger issue of dues and member benefits in general so that we have a dues plan that makes sense when increases are ultimately presented to the membership. 73, Mike N2YBB -----Original Message----- From: jfenster@pacifier.com Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2013 10:50 AM To: arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org Subject: [arrl-odv:21494] Re: QST Position Question All, I seem to remember some of the cost of going to Digital QST would be offset by a reduction in the number of print versions of QST which would reduce the cost to print and mail (albeit a farily small $ amount). Thus, I believe we should have one or the other or charge some differential if a member wants both. Then, of course, there is the cost of maintaining a data base of who wants what and the cost of managing the process and charging for the extra issue...ad nausium. Comments? 73 Jim K9JF
In regards to the Print QST and Digital QST-
I remember our original position, that members were to continue to receive the print QST and have an option to access the digital QST. If they wished to no longer receive the print edition, they would need to call HQ to stop the mailings. However, we were not going to "push" this option.
I received copies of emails "Go Green: Get Digital QST Only", with an opt out form, from ARRL.
I do remember that this was discussed very briefly at a previous board meeting, but I'm not sure if there was a resolution.
So, what is our board position on this presently? Should we be neutral and not say anything to members about this option and just let the Go Green e-mails speak for themselves? Or should we be proactive and encourage this option?
On a somewhat related note, I have received questions as to when Digital QST will be available for Android devices as a dedicated App (like IOS). They make the argument that the android sales are outperforming the IOS series.
Thanks!
